What is PTE ?

PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language exam for non-native English speakers who choose to study in a foreign country. It assesses your ability to read, write, listen, and talk.

Questions that combine two skills, such as listening and reading or reading and speaking, are common. The entire test is completed in a single 3-hour session while seated at a computer in a safe testing area. The exam’s speaking portion is completed on a screen. Your voice is captured and forwarded for review.

One benefit of this test is that you will obtain your results in around 5 days.

Difference in IELTS &PTE

The British Council, Cambridge English Language Assessment, and IDP Education collaborate on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The test was developed in 1989 to determine and credential non-native English speakers’ proficiency.

Pearson introduced the Pearson Test of English (PTE) in 2009, making it one of the most recent entrants into the area of testing and certifying non-native English speakers’ English language proficiency. The PTE is approved by the QCA, which is run in conjunction with Edexcel, the UK’s largest investigating body.

Test Versions

IELTS and PTE also have two common versions: Academic and General Training, and PTE also has a Young Learners Exam.

The Academic versions are intended for students seeking admission to a university, while the General versions of IELTS and PTE certify one’s practical communication skills for non-academic purposes. The PTE Young Learner test assesses children’s English language communication skills.

Part 1: Speaking & Writing (77 – 93 Minutes)

Part 1 will assess your speaking and writing abilities. This segment will last between 77 and 93 minutes.

The ability to generate spoken English in an academic setting can then be used to determine the speaking skills.

Part 2: Reading (32 – 40 Minutes)

Part 2 will put your reading skills to the test. Depending on the combination of items in a given exam, this single timed segment includes 15-20 separate and combined skills items. Different response formats, such as multiple-choice, re-order paragraphs, and fill in the blanks, are also used to assess your ability to read, write, and listen to English-language content.

Because PTE Academic is an integrated skill test, one item type in this part of the test also assesses writing skills.

Part 3: Listening (45 – 57 Minutes)

Part 3 consists of questions based on audio or video clips that immediately start playing. Each audio or video clip is only heard once, so pay attention. After that, you’re free to take notes.

You have the option to change the volume for each issue. Switch the control bar to the right to raise the volume or to the left to reduce the volume while the audio clip is playing.
